The 60 fps cap

Elden Ring ships locked at 60 fps. This is a deliberate choice by FromSoftware, not a limit of your hardware. Newer patches added an in-menu option to unlock it, and free tools like Special K or the framerate-unlock mods on Nexus can push it to 120.

One warning: the engine was built around 60 fps, so unlocking it can add screen tearing and the odd physics quirk. If you play online, use unlock tools offline only, since the anti-cheat can flag them.

Why Elden Ring stutters, and how to fix it

The stutter is separate from the frame cap. It comes from the game compiling shaders the first time you see new effects, from streaming the open world as you ride across it, and from Windows throttling your CPU between frames on the Balanced power plan.

The single biggest fix is switching Windows to the High Performance or Ultimate Performance power plan. After that, turn on your RAM's XMP or EXPO profile so it runs at full speed, play in borderless windowed mode, and close background apps like browsers, Discord overlay, and hardware monitors. The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion

The DLC does not change the CPU, GPU, or RAM requirements at all. It uses the same specs as the base game. The only difference is storage, which rises to around 80GB total.
